Dictionaries are programs or plugins that supply a list of correct words for one or more languages. They may also contain grammatical and meaning information for the words.

LibreOffice dictionary and spell checking in other languages? (without Java)
For french syntax, the best way is to use Grammalecte : it has capacities with grammar and conjugaison (underline words in blue).
To install it, just download the odt file (with a macro).
