I have had great success with Always on Top under Windows 7, and it looks like it's still working perfectly under Windows 8. It runs in the system tray, uses a simple Ctrl+Space shortcut, and is <200KB in size. It's also free. If you're unsure about running strange code off somewhat strange websites, you can achieve the exact same result with an ...

You're not the first person to ask this. If there was one it would probably be posted on StackApps. That being said a quick search under the Windows tag pulls up only about five results, none of which appear to be a full client like you are asking for. There have been projects in the past such as open-so-frontend, which was last updated Sep 6, 2012 and ...

The person who has recommended Classic Shell to you is on the right way, the program is free and will recover the classic startmenu, and it does its job really well because you can choose the Windows 7 style which will look exactly like in Windows 7, and you can select if it should skip the Metro screen or disable the active corners. I would recommend giving one more try to setting the permissions. It addresses the problem native way instead of various workarounds provided by tools. What you need is actually one of basic functionalities of every operating system, it just has to be configured according to your needs. It is Well-implemented so if set properly, there is minimal chance that ...

While my answer does not meet the requirement of C#/java, I thought I would mention it as it is in intensive development, and is open-source. FreeCad It is written in Python and in some C++. If you are using the laptop connected to AC all the day, you can switch charger ...

I'd recommend going without additional software. To edit your C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts file, make sure you are running Notepad As Administrator. If it still does not work, check the ownership of the file. I've already seen it set weird way. I've taken it, re-checked appropriate permissions and then editing worked as expected.

First time I've seen someone refer to a USB drive/flash drive/thumb drive as a UFD - The USB download tool you mentioned will work for windows 8 (and presumably for 8.1, which isn't generally offered as an ISO) with the same constraints as windows 7 (you can't create a x64 boot disk on a x86 system in my experience).

You can use AutoHotKey to do this. It's a resident program, and I've been using to generate and insert GUIDs on a keypress for a while now. You'll want to know about the key list, and you'll want to read some of the documentation. To remap the numberpad 0 key to !, for instance, you'd put the following line in your AutoHotKey script file: Numpad0::! ...
