Software to create or restore data backups.
Backup is the act of saving one's files, data, applications, etc. to secondary media, allowing for the recovery of the files, data, applications, etc. in the event that the primary media becomes unavailable (fails). The term is also applied to the resulting files, and sometimes even to the secondary media used for storage.
A backup usually has one of two purposes:
- recover data after its loss (e.g. accidentally deletion, or media failure/data corruption)
- recover data from an earlier time
