I'd recommend Brackets. A very nice editor built for HTML5 programming but does other languages as well. Developed by Abobe it is free with upgrades occurring a few times a year. I'm pretty sure this is cross-platform. Extensions are available to add capabilities. I've used it for HTML5 and Python both.
