I'm looking for writing tools for authors specially with great user-experience where one can control different versions, different endings, variations of the same chapter etc; somewhere one can work with multiple documents simaletenously, keep notes, and, merge and split versions etc. I tried Ulysses and it comes pretty close. It has a simple UI and also comes with password protection but it does not let the user customise the app like one can't even move the sidebars on other side. So the eidtor is always on the right and once the editors are in full view, the sidebar containing excerpts can not be seen. And Scrivener is kind of a glorified directory tool in my opinion as it only separates documents into different deep folders. Any other tool authors use that does all those mentioned above?
