I have 1+ workstations on Windows 10 enterprise, and shared disks accessible to a FreeNAS base server (on metal or VM), and a ZFS volume to receive the backups.

Do you recommend a certain software ? or a script doing something like a mirror of the Windows drives to the ZFS drive and have on a regular basis snapshots being made ? Is there a better way to do a fuller backup (MBR, sectors etc) of the Windows drives on FreeNAS than accessing to them via samba ?

A primitive version would use ssh tunneling and rsync and cron; few FreeNAS plugins are available: https://www.freenas.org/plugins/ which one(s) do you recommend ?

One of the goals is to remove any load from the workstations.
