Looking for suggestions on a key/value store with the following characteristics:

  1. Embedded. My environment is Scala, so that or Java is fine. I'm hesitant to consider MapDB, as it brings a dependency on Kotlin, even though seems a good fit.

  2. Read-optimized. Most of my ops are reads and the writes can be done asynchronously. But reads must be fast and non-blocking.

  3. Must support updates.

  4. I don't need transactions, but a single update call must be guaranteed atomic.

  5. Ideally, a distributed case should be supported, i.e. when multiple instances of my application operate on the same datastore via via some distributed file system.

Many thanks in advance!
