I'm working in a company which manages transport systems. Currently, we need to handle incoming information from XML files. Those are structured XMLs, basically they have a body which is called and is a list of events.

Depending on the event, each of them has different fields, which can be nested objects.

<eventMessage>
  <Event_header>...</Event_header>
  <E_product_use>
    <serial> 1 </serial>
     ...
  </E_product_use>
</eventMessage>

What we do is process the input XML file into a relational database (Postgresql). But I don't know if this is the best idea, at the end we are just consulting the information of the xmls, like for example show all the serials in the files or count all the events of certain type in a range of dates.

I don't know if a XML database would be a better idea, I have no experience with them.
