I am considering a generic Data warehouse setup using Azure SQL DB. Which option would be best:

  • Single Database OR
  • Managed Instance

The following differences I am already aware of that are key differentiators in a data warehouse context:

Single Database only supports recovery mode Full. Single Database does not support Polybase Managed Instance has less pricing steps Single Database has "less" support for cross DB queries Single Database in combination with Azure Data Factory would always need a second SSISDB that comes at extra pricing Single Database does not support BYOL Single Database has a few less features (like SQL Agent)

For the above options I would prefer the managed instance. However are there arguments that I overlook or user experiences?

Guidance would be appreciated!
