I work in a shop that is big-data-ish. Historically we've been a .NET shop but in the last few years we've added Kafka, Hadoop, Storm, and Spark -- all based on the JVM. I have no interest in learning Java (or Scala) and shocked that there aren't any .NET-based streaming data stacks, or at least a non-Java stack. Is big data really a Java world (and if so, why?)?
