As the tile says, I am looking for a gratis Windows DVD movie ripper. Alas, the highly respected Handbrake can see my eternal DVD drive, but claims that there Is not file/image on it. I tried with several DVDs, with the same results, although I can see the DVD content in the Windows File Explorer.

Preferred output format is .MKV, I would accept .MP4 and could live with .AVI. The higher the output quality, the better; I have lots of disk space and want to make backups. I will continue to view the DVs, but want high quality backups in case they get damaged.
