As part of my project I need to have a central server that multiple devices would periodically ping and send some system information (for example OS type/version, nothing too special). The purpose of this server is to have a central knowledge of the distributed devices (the main piece of information that I need is the IP of those devices, as the remote devices are mobile and change IPs). Of course such a web application would be easy to build, but I am looking for a solution that would be easier to maintain, as eventually I would not be the one maintaining this project.

Thank you in advance.

  • Depending on the number of devices: consider leveraging frameworks such as Google Compute IoT or AWS IoT - If you're only looking for the IP-address Dynamic DNS client software exists for many platforms where your device can dynamically update their ip-address and you can simply lookup/connect to a persistent hostname. – HBruijn Dec 8 '17 at 11:16
