There are some high-quality maps available in .img format (for Garmin devices).

I am looking for program that:

  • works in Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 (mandatory)
  • can display .img files (mandatory)
  • can display multiple .img files at once, as some maps are separated into layers or areas (preferable)
  • program is free (preferable, demo must be available for free testing)
  • program is without ads (preferable)
  • program is available from Play Store (strongly preferable)
  • program works without rooting phone (mandatory)

Locus Maps partially fit requirements

  • app works in Android 6.0.1
  • can display .img files (sometimes incorrectly)
  • is unable to display multiple .img fles (Map overlays are offered in paid version, it is not clear what it means)
  • free version is available
  • free version is with ad banner, so far no fullscreen ads
  • available from Play Store
  • works without root
  • "map overlays" are comparable to "layers" IIRC (think of Google Earth; in the corresponding list I see things like wind, temperature wave hight). But in the paid version it seems one can have multiple map sources active at the same time. Not played with that much, though. – Izzy Sep 13 '17 at 21:15
