Is there a tool which can ease recognition of similar desktop windows

  • by attaching some color mark to them OR
  • by re-coloring their window frame
  • by other visual means (except of changing title text, which is often small for purpose of distinguishing windows)

It does not necessarily need to be free.

Windows of productivity applications often look nearly the same and you need to read window title or part of the document inside to recognize which one you actually see. Possibility of adding some big visual cue would make work in such cases much easier.

  • Can you elaborate on your reasons for such a tool? – rrirower Jun 30 '16 at 23:02
  • Maybe the asker has two FTP clients open, one to test server and one to production server, and wants to reduce the probability of mistakes. – Nicolas Raoul Jul 1 '16 at 6:59
  • @NicolasRaoul – exactly. Two FTP windows, two IDE's, two plain text editors. In Windows, all windows have the same chrome so the users have to rely on layout of content inside windows when recognizing them. But if many open windows look similar at the first sight, you need to read some document content or window title to recognize which is which. On the long run, this is quite a nuissance. Adding some significant visual cue would really help. – miroxlav Jul 1 '16 at 7:42
